Internet Explorer / IE >> Can't change IE7 link icons in Windows XP

When I installed IE7, all the desktop links that had customized icons turned
into plain IE7 icons. I have tried to customize the links, but the normal
method (Properties, Change Icon, Browse etc.) doesn't work. How can I change
the icons on IE7 links? Ayush sent me the following solution, but it only
works on small icons, and I want to use large ones:
1) Right click Desktop and choose Properties
2) Go to Appearance tab and click on Effects button.
3) Uncheck "Use Large icons" and click OK twice.
Now I can customize my desktop internet shortcut icons ONLY IF I WANT SMALL
ICONS. I need large customized icons to help me differentiate between the
many shortcuts on my desktop. Thanks!

Internet Explorer / IE >> Can't change IE7 link icons in Windows XP Hi,
You may be able to make icons somewhat larger. You'll have to experiment to
find out at what size the problem with favicons returns.

> 1) Right click Desktop and choose Properties
> 2) Go to Appearance tab and click on Effects button.

Click on Advanced- not Effects.
Select Item> Icon. Enlarge icons until the problem returns.

Hope this helps,
Don

Internet Explorer / IE >> Can't change IE7 link icons in Windows XP Hello rteo,

Edit the link file directly by opening it in a text editor:

Add the following lines:

IconFile=path_to_your_ico_or_dll_file
IconIndex=1

Specify the path to your customized icon. Change the IconIndex to specify
icons in dlls.

Best regards,

Viktor

Internet Explorer / IE >> Can't change IE7 link icons in Windows XP Thanks, Don.
I did exactly what you said. I got the icons bigger, and found the upward
limit of size. So I've got my customized links back! Thanks to you.
Best wishes,
