Internet Explorer / IE >> Can not install IE7b3

Beta 2 was working fine on this machine and now I get this:

79.735: DoInstallation: Installing assemblies with source root path:
c:\0b76ffd745877c41f295b7f1\
79.735: Num Ticks for Copying files : 21625
85.844: DoRegistryUpdates:UpdSpInstallFromInfSection Failed for
ProductInstall.GlobalRegistryChanges.Install error: 0x5
85.844: INF_REGISTRY Failed
85.844: DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed
85.875: Access is denied.
85.875: Internet Explorer 7 installation did not complete.

Select 'OK' to undo the changes that have been made.
85.875: Starting process: C:\WINDOWS\ie7beta3\spuninst\spuninst.exe /~ -q -z
123.094: Software Update Rollback has completed with return code 0xbc2.
This rollback requires a reboot.
123.094: Internet Explorer 7 installation did not complete.

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 has been partially updated and may not work
properly.
123.094: Update.exe extended error code = 0x5

I have disabled Zone Alarm and avg anti-virus. I looked at the file that
was created on the desktop, nothing in there helped. Any ideas? How about
where I can get Beta 2 back?

Thank you

Internet Explorer / IE >> Can not install IE7b3 I have also tried to install ie7 beta 3 on 2 different machines which both
used beta2 quite happily. I get the message "IE could not be installed"
Workaround Method 1 did not return anything findings from the log file (on
both PC's) so I guess the registry is OK
Wassup?

Internet Explorer / IE >> Can not install IE7b3 Try this, I had the same problem with BETA3 and after doing this it installed
fine.

- Boot up Windows in 'Safe Mode with Networking' mode
- Log in on an administrator account (either the built in Administrator
account, or an account that has Administrator access)
- Run the BETA3 installer.
- You should then find that the installer should complete successfully.
Reboot the PC as normal and that should be it.

Hope this helps,

Ian

That was a really useful and simple workaround. I hope someone from
Microsoft notes this!!!
IE7 is installed and works fine.

I had the same problem AFTER fixing another problem.

I didn't have any previous IE7 beta installed, either...

Internet Explorer / IE >> Can not install IE7b3 Hello all, just some info to pass along:

To install IE7 Sucessfully after receiving 0xbc2 exit code, please do the
following:

Note: Please do not remove any security software from your computer, unless
you have a method to re-install it.

Uninstall ZoneAlarm firewall. Uninstall Webroot Spysweeper. If your not
using ZoneAlarm or Webroot Spysweeper, uninstall any other 3rd party security
software including protection for spyware, virus, and firewalls. Once the
software is uninstalled reboot your computer. Once the computer is back up,
reboot it again. Don't forget to reboot computer twice.

Windows XP PRO USERS:

Click on 'start' and 'run' and paste the following command into the run box,
and click 'ok':

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb
/verbose /areas REGKEYS

Windows XP HOME USERS:

Please note: This step is not necessary for XP Home users. If you don't do
this step though, you may have to set permissions on your registry keys
manually.

Windows XP Home does not come with the secedit.exe file. You can easily
copy this file from another XP PRO machine, and paste a copy of it in the
\windows\system32 folder. Once that is done, you can run the secedit
command:

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb
/verbose /areas REGKEYS

Go to www.microsoft.com/ie/ie7 and download the IE7 Beta 3 installer and
save it to the desktop. Run it from the desktop normally.

Good Luck!

Ray
