We're attempting to use an MSBuild project to sign the application and deployment manifests for our applications. I'm in the later stages of development and moved it to a server to test how we invisaged it to be deployed, but have come across yet another undocumented ambiguous error.
Error MSB3482: SignTool reported an error 'The parameter is incorrect. C:\Program Files\ApplicationName\Project.xml(12, 5)
On my development machine - where it works - it's running under my user account. On the server we tried to use a local account, then a domain account, both failed. If I use my user account it works. I've added our publisher certificate to the personal store of every user we've attempted to run it as. What happens is MSBuild gets to the SignFile task, then halts, a minute or so later it dumps the error above. My MSBuild project follows:
<Project xmlns=" http://www.hide-link.com/ ;> <ItemGroup> <ApplicationManifest Include="C:\Program Files\ApplicationName\Mes.PerformanceManager.UI.exe.manifest" /> </ItemGroup> <ItemGroup> <DeploymentManifest Include="C:\Program Files\ApplicationName\PerformanceManager.deploy" /> </ItemGroup> <PropertyGroup> <Certificate>4A88ECEF052FCB200B7713E227CB8E8BFE498A76</Certificate> </PropertyGroup> <Target Name="Sign"> <SignFile CertificateThumbprint="$(Certificate)"
TimestampUrl=" http://www.hide-link.com/ ; /> ... Other tasks ... </Target> </Project>
Help appreciated...

Further investigation has shown the tool is not authenticating with our ISA server properly, and strangely the error occurs for every user but mine on the network - what is special about my user account I have no idea.
For my user account the tool attempts to contact the VeriSign timestamp server anonymously and fails, then tries again with the proper credentials and succeeds. Every other user tries anonymously and fails then doesn't try again - this is where the tool seems to hang.
Does anyone have any ideas Microsoft staff

I'm seeing a similar problem, except it happens with my personal userid as well.
I can access the internet just fine from IE going through our ISA server (proxy settings are setup properly through IE connection properties), but when I sniff my TCP/HTTP traffic and look at the signtool activity, I can see a 407 error from the ISA server.
Anyone with a suggestion

One option is to remove the timestamp from the process, that way the tool will not need to access the Internet - not ideal, but an option.
