Media Center >> My Internet connection is not recognized?!? Please help!
In the Setup Wizard, when I'm prompted to setup my Internet Connection, I
check off the option that says "Yes, I have an always-on connection". (I
have cable Internet.) Then I'm asked to test the connection. I click the
"Test" button, and a wheel appears and begins to spin...for over an hour
before I finally stop it. My Internet connection appears to be working fine.
I can access any web site I want to. I turned off my McAfee Firewall, and
turned on the Windows Firewall, naming Media Center as a program that gets
all access.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? It's keeping me from finishing the Set-up
Wizard and downloading the program guide.
Thank you,
Melissa

In the setup, you don't have to click the Test button...just bypass the test
and go to the Next button...I don't think I've tested the net connection in
the last few installs I've done and it doesn't seem to affect anything...

Dana,
Thank you for replying. Even when I skip the Internet Connection test, I
still get hung up when it's time to "Download Provider Information" (about
local TV signal providers). On the next line, it says:
Status: Connecting to the Internet...
and it will say that until I give up and close Media Center.
Thanks,
Melissa

Hmmm, definitely a problem then. First suggestion is to take a look at
firewall settings, then router settings...

Thanks again for your help Dana. After talking to my ISP and Gateway, I
found the answer to my problem on McAfee's site. I had to uninstall
McAffee's Privacy Service, and now everything works ok.
