Media Center >> What is "Strong name Validation and JIT Debugger"? Please Help

I have purchased the media center in June 04 and over the past month have not
been able to activate the program.

It continues to state "strong name validation C://Windows/ehshell.exe/ehome
....then when I press okay to debug it takes me to "Application has generated
an excepetion that could not be handled. Process id=0xd30 (3376), Thread
id=0xbb4(2996). I then press cancel to debug which then says "Registered JIT
de**** is not available. An attemtp to launch JIT resulted in an error code
of 0x2 (2). Please check computer settings. cordbg.exe !a0xd30.

Does anybody know what to do at this point, it is really frustrating..

Did it start after you applied a hot fix from Microsoft? If so, you may
be able to fix it by falling back to a restore point made before the fix
was applied, if you're luck enough to have on still available.

Is it by chance an HP system with an Intel Hyper Threading processor?

If so, there may be a fix available from them. Let me know & I'll send
you a URL that they gave me. However, if you don't have an HP with HT, it
might not work.

However, I believe there is a fix from Microsoft...look for Hyper
Threading processor problems in their knowledge base. However, their fix
will be to install SP2 which caused me a lot of grief and didn't fix the
problem...quite the opposite.

Here's what I received from HP that supposedly fixes the problems caused
by the KB838358 hot fix. I don't think it will work if you've applied
SP2.

Normal disclaimer applies...use at your own risk and don't blame me if
it makes things worse. However, I'll take credit if it works :-).

I think there is more info on the HP site if you search for that fix
(sp23898).

I think you're right...for some reason HP systems seem to have more
issues, perhaps because of the hyper-threading cpus since not all HPs
seem to be affected.

Anyway, here it is. Let me know if it works for you. It would probably
be a real good idea to create a restore point before you apply it.

Good luck...

I have no idea what it would do to your system. OTOH, what do you have to
lose? Make a restore point before you try it and then go for it. If it
doesn't work, you can revert to the restore point.

Having said that, I'll repeat my disclaimer...use at your own risk and
don't blame me if it makes things worse.

OTOH, I believe this fix addresses issues with hyper-threading Intel P4
processors. If you have one, it may just fix it. If not, who knows what
will happen? We are, after all, dealing with a Microsoft product...

Finally, I'll re-repeat my disclaimer...use at your own risk and don't
blame me if it makes things worse.

Mine is disabled too. I'll change it and give it a try this evening...gotta
head for work now. Thanks for the info. It sure would be nice if MS would
make known stuff like this.

So are you up & running with SP2 now?
