PostPosted: Windows SDK, Cannot install June CTP Windows SDK Top

I have downloaded the *.img file contning Image of the DVD with June CTP Windows SDK

I followed all the instructions to uninstall May CTP SDK & WinFX

I Installed Net 3.0 June and here's the problem:

While trying to install Windows SDK I get this error : "Error 1330 A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file F:\Setup\WinSDK-SDK_MDAC_BIN_common.0.cab as an invalid digital signature This may indicate the cabinet file is corrupt"

I checked this file (Size is 2 438 462 / 2 439 168 on disc) - and this file does not contain the digital signature (neither have all the files named starting with WinSDK-SDK_MDAC*.*)

I tryed to install MDAC2.8 SDK separetly so that Windows SDK Installer won't install these files but It didn't work.

Can anyone help

Same problem here instaling on XP SP2.
Tried by replacing the cab file with the same from the beta2 distro to no avail, that means that the cab file is not corrupt at all.

I had this idea - but I used web-installer for beta2 and I don't have the setup files... but as I can see it doesn't help

This is really frustrating, a number of cab files are getting corrupt during download, which files and the number of corrupted files changes with every download. I tried to assemble a complete usable distro, but gave up after 3 downloads because, while I was able to recover most files I'm still missing a few.
I wonder why some files might get corrupt during transfer.

This has been a particularly difficult release to publish live, and it has caused us a lot of late nights and internal conversations.

Bottom line is that it took a long time for all bits to be fully live, and now they are. We on the SDK team apologize for your frustration on this, and we're using this as a lesson to help drive how we manage future releases.

If you continue to have problems, please email me with a copy of your log.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the follow up. Unfortunately the latest download is even worse, I had to copy PowerShell_Setup-i386.msi, dbg_x86.msi and WinSDK-x86.msi from a previous download, the install of Powershell, Debug tools and WinSDK failed early in the process.
Now with these in place the install fails again with following message in the install.log file.

Error 1330. A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file F:\WinSDK\Setup\WinSDK-SDK_WinFX_DOC-common.16.cab has an invalid digital signature.  This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt.  Error 24592 was returned by WinVerifyTrust.

Note that "WinSDK-SDK_WinFX_DOC-common.16.cab" is the one that seems to be corrupt for all downloads I've done so far.

Hi Willy -

You may have a corrupt version of the WinSDK-SDK_WinFX_DOC-common.16.cab stuck in your cache. If you purge your IE cache, does that help If not, are you connecting through a proxy server We have seen some problems with downloading over a proxy server, but unfortunately those are issues with the proxy servers and not with our files.

We tested the release before it went out to make sure that everything was digitally signed. The release passed that test. A large group of team members also tested the release on our personal machines, outside the Microsoft network. All of were able to download without errors last night. Earlier in the day we tried downloading within the corporate network and many of us had install failures due to proxy server issues that shows corrupt files.

Can you repro the error outside of your work network

What's really frustrating about this is that we had literally no reports of user errors with the Beta 2 release, and now we're having a number of reported errors with the June CTP, which uses almost the same code base. The only change between Beta 2 and June CTP is the addition of the install location screen which is clearly not the problem here. Since the code base is the same, I'm hoping that the real issue is due to our difficult release this time and perhaps there are cached bad files that are causing you these problems.

Hi Jason!

Thanks for the information. But I still have the question: should I follow the same http-link that I used before to get the latest version of the June CTP:

Has anyone managed to install the CTP at all

Hi Mike,
What happens if you do a CRC check on the ISO Can you please let me know if this is the problem We've had several reports of this issue, and I'm really concerned.
Thanks!
- Jason
To verify that your download of an ISO file for the Windows SDK June CTP build is not corrupt, download the CRC Utility(http://tacobell.iexbeta.com/longhorn/crc.exe). (Note: this is not a Microsoft application. Use at your own risk.)
To run the CRC test, open a command prompt and run the utility. providing it the name of the file (i.e. crc c:\6.0.5456.3.0.WindowsSDK_Vista_idw.DVD.Rel.img)
The CRC utility will run two tests on the ISO: it will verify if the ISO is valid, and it will give the AutoCRC signature for the file. The AutoCRC signature for the Windows SDK June CTP ISO is 0x4F2680CF. You should also confirm the size of the ISO is correct: 1.13 GB (1,222,107,136 bytes)
If it fails any of these three tests, re-download the ISO.

Sorry to make you re-download, but that's the only fix. Please post either way if you have success with the new download.

Hi Jason,

Finally managed to install without any problem.
I'm not using an internal  proxy server, but my ISP is using a caching proxy. So, I kindly asked these people to flush their caches, which they obviously refused to do, instead they changed my proxy configuration so I would use another one. And after a new download, I finally succeeded to install the complete SDK.

Thanks for the great suport.
Willy.
