running at 100%, and its doing that 100% of the time, im afraid it may
overheat. I am running a Sony Vaio laptop, 3.2 Gz, 1Gig RAM, 64MB video
card. vista is also running slow, very very slow... it lags and it
doesnt alow me to move large files. (says that i do not have permission)

Same here, 100% all the time. I'm running on a 2GB RAM Virtual Machine, I posted a question about it nobody answers, but looking at your problem, it might be an overrall beta issue at this point. Hope somebody from MS give us some feedback about it.

Everytime I see my processor go up 100%, its the Explorer.EXE which takes 99% - so I just kill it and the taskbar vanishes. I run explorer.exe from the New Task on Task Manager and everything comes back to normal.

i'll try that, but another thing i realized is that, since i'm running Vista on my laptop it only has 64 MB Video Memory. I found that it is required that you have atleast 256 MB Video Memory, because Vista beta is not yet designed for performance. The final version will not have this problem.

Hiya archorsair,
I had the same problem with my new installation. After a few hours of trouble shooting I found a solution that may work for you and then again, it may not.
Depending on whether your MoBo has an onboard video As mine does, and I also had an ATI (All In One Wonder) attached to PCI-Express.
I simply "shut down" the computer dove into the tower and removed the ATI card. Making sure that all power was turned off before removing the video card. Before removing the card I reset the "BIOS" by removing the battery.( Don't forget to put the battery back in before you power-on)
Plugged in the monitor into the MoBo connection, re-installed my mouse and keyboard and powered the baby up.
It all booted up like a charm, I hope this helps.
Ciao For Now,
MeToo

I tried all the recommendations but nothing helped. I still have a processer running like crazy in Vista. I have currently 1GB. Would more memory solve this problem The interesting part is that initialy it worked ok. I had no problems with my speed. But after a couple of days it suddenly changed. Please help!

Hey Rinter21, I know that this could be from many variables but you may want to try this..
If your capable to go to the start MENU and click on RUN you may want to type in the RUN command "MSCONFIG" enter.
THis will pop up the "Systems Configuration Utility", from there select the "START UP" tab. From there on the right hand bottom corner
select "DISABLE ALL" and "APPLY"
It will than ask you to reboot your system. Reboot and see if there is a difference.
I hope this helps.

I have the same problem too.
My Vista Home Premium goes crazy, this time when I open either WINDOWS folder or Program Files. After killing it and starting it up, I have no problem, unless i go to those folders. Help me too!

I recently purchased a new Dell desktop computer and had it configured (or so I thought) to run Vista. Not only does it run slow but almost every program I run on it, including Office 2007 software locks up several times a day. I have lost more time on the PC running VISTA than on any other issue in my company to date! This is a NIGHTMARE and any help is greatly appreciated. I am at the point of looking at downgrading back to XP or moving to another platform such as Linux.

I open WINDOWS folder to clear the Prefetch, and this slowdown happens. For other people, try clearing the Prefetch 10 files by 10 files. This may be bothersome, but it works for me. BB

Noting that we can do to minimise the running to 100% processor by reducing running software. but you might try this out. I try this my self give a space under you laptop. or put an addtional fan for you laptop. to let the cool air flow under the laptop this will make the processor run normal again.

Thanks for your ADVISE, I don't understand why however it works great with me, I simply opened my notebook lid (normally in use on dock with lid closed and seperate monitor) and the CPU dropped from 100% to 4%.
Never had this problem with XP, however since I have Vista Business this is another new phenomenon to make this O.S. work.
And yes you are right !!! I also thought that going to Vista would bring me Improvements
