I am using a Symbol MC70 running Windows Mobile 5 ( 5.1.70 ) on the O2-UK network

When ever I try to use the device with a data SIM installed - so I can use GPRS networking - I keep getting "Message from network" notifications popping up all over the place, which block data enty and application navigation until you dismiss them.

I think they have the mobile cells the device can currently see.

How can I configure the phone application to ignore these network messages and stop all these popup notifications.

I have been following another thread where there were some reg settings to turn of some of the alerting under MSN messengaer, so are there similar ( undocumneted/unsupported ) entries that can be used to supress these unwanted alerts

I have exactly the same problem on Symbol MC70, but on Vodafone.

Did you find a resolution

Will post back here if I crack it.

Symbol have sent the following resolution which appears to work.

SYMPTOMS:

  • By default, the MC70 may display cell broadcast messages indicating that it roamed between networks or towers.

CAUSE:

  • Cell broadcast messages are built into the MC70 and defined in Phase 2 of the GSM standard in GSM 03.49.

RESOLUTION:

  • The following key can be used to turn off the cell broadcast feature of the MC70:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\RIL]

"EnableCBM"=dword:0

"EnableCBMChannels"=""

"EnableCBMDCS"=""

I hope you have been given this advice already, but you will to use a reg editor to create/update the key on the device. Once the key is set it will survive cold boots and battery loss without any problems,
