Directory >> How to remove old servers from AD.

Hi there
We are running Windows 2000 domain with mixed 2k servers and 2003. I replaced two of our servers with new ones last week. The new servers have different names but we gave them the same IP addresses that the old ones had. Now when I ping the old names I still get a reply back with the same IP addresses that the new servers have. Where are these names kept and how do I get rid of them

Thanks

Amin

Check your DNS for the old host names. Most likely, you'll find them there.
If you use WINS, check the WINS database also.

Did you properly remove the old servers using DCPROMO to demote them? If
not, you'll need to spend time manually removing them from AD. If you need
info about this, let me know.

Directory >> How to remove old servers from AD. You can wait the 7 days for the entries to poison out of
DNS, also tombstoning any entries for those servers in
WINS may be a good idea, then fluse your local DNS
IPconfig /flushdns
