I've a number of SBS-2000 servers which I maintain.

I generally work remotely with these boxes, including applying patches and
rebooting them.

Lately, one of them has taken to failing with the subject message, followed
by:

The Microsoft ISA Server Control service failed to start due to the
following error:

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely
fashion.

followed by a cascade of other failures, including RAS.

Needless to say, in a remote situation, this is a disaster. These boxes
don't have fancy management modems which are available when the OS isn't up.

Thoughts about what might be happening?

I go in, or call up on the phone next morning, and the services are all
startable with no issues.

Is there something about startup order I can control or change?
