PocketPC >> Using a PPC as a music server remote

I'm hoping some of you fine folks have some ideas on this project I'd like
to do. None of the commercial products I've found seem to do quite what I
want.

Here's the project:

- Set up a server with a primary function of storing and serving MP3s across
home networked devices.

- Have the server networked to one or more stereo systems in the house. This
could be a wired or wireless network.

- Use my PDA (Dell Axim) with a wireless NIC as a remote control, managing
play lists and sending the music to the stereo.

The commercial devices I've seen all have PC interfaces or dedicated remote
controls that don't quite provide the same flexibility or functionality.
Using a laptop as a remote is not a particularly elegant solution. About
the only thing I can come up with is running Terminal Server on the server
and the TS client on the PDA - again, rather clunky.

Is there anything out there that can do this, or do I have to invent the
wheel?

Thanks much,

I'm sure there's a PocketPC Winamp application that does what you're after.

if they will do what you are after or not but at least it s worth a look

PocketPC >> Using a PPC as a music server remote Simply install and configure WebAmp in conjuction with WinAmp on the
"music server" computer.

Then, any connected PPC on the LAN (or any connected computer on the LAN
for that matter) can access the WebAmp computer via that computer's LAN
ip address in PIE's address bar... simple as that ;-)

PocketPC >> Using a PPC as a music server remote I thought there was some web-interfaces for winamp that would allow
remote-control over HTTP... Haven't seen for myself though, but check it
out!

PocketPC >> Using a PPC as a music server remote I've been using Iremote for over a year and it's worked great. My only
complaint is I wish it ran as a service on my headless 2000 machine but
other than that it's great.
