SQL Server Developer >> how to install client tools for sql2005 enterprise trial download...

I installed a copy of sql2005 enterprise on win 2003 sp1 server and it
went well.
I want to manage the server thru my workstation (like EM). but there is
no documentation about how to install just client tools (such as SQL
Server Management Studio) on workstation. what are the requirements? I
have win2000 professional sp4 but sql2005 setup will not start up
properly. any advices from Microsoft?
thank you

Could you be a weee bit more specific? Maybe an error message would be
helpful, in addition to how you are trying to start setup.

If you want to install the client tools, then look in the root of the
extracted content. There is a folder called "Servers" and a folder called
"Tools". Both contain a file called setup.exe, that look identical, but if
you just want the client tools, you want to run the file in the "Tools"
folder. (Several people have inadvertently tried to run the setup.exe file
in Servers\Setup\ which, for some bizarre reason, starts the Office 2003 Web
Components setup. I think that folder could have been labeled better, or
the web components stuff put in a more relevant place.)

Running the client tools will require other prerequisites to be installed
first, such as the .NET framework. It will not work if you had beta
versions of SQL Server and/or Visual Studio on your machine, didn't read the
readme and properly remove all of them. In this case, you should get an
error message about incompatible beta components. There have been several
posts about this: http://tinyurl.com/bwg77

If reading these posts still doesn't help, then if you want further
assistance, you're going to have to elaborate a bit on what "will not start
up properly" means. I had the same problem with my MG this morning; I
wonder if the two issues are related? I also had difficulty starting to pay
my bills this evening. I think you get my point.

I encountered just any error messages you mentioned:

...for some bizarre reason, starts the Office 2003 Web
Components setup. ...
... It will not work if you had beta
versions of SQL Server and/or Visual Studio on your machine, didn't
read the
readme and properly remove all of them....
(note: i had prior beta sql server 2005 express, and i had difficult
times to uninstall them, it kept saying .NET framework 2.0 is not
running, which is not true, I have serveral v2.somthing on my
computer....)

....error message about incompatible beta components....I got this one
too.

but when i finally cleaned those up and was able to start the intall
process, it errored out again:

Setup.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point _create_locale could not be located in the
dynamic link library MSVCR80.dll

and I just couldn't go further beyond that error message.
I've the same error message for both setup files (under the folders
server and tools)

p.s. i also installed MDAC 2.8 but it didnt' help.

My workstation is running win2000 pro with sp1
with .NET frame work v2.0.50727
and i have an existing copy of EM from sql2k.

thank you.
