MS Word Errors >> Activation Wizard problem

My father in law (80+) bought a new xp machine with a trial version of Word
2003 installed. he had a legitimately purchased version of Word 97 he used on
his previous computer, and uanable to afford Word 2003 he decided to use
this. Add-remove progs didn't give him the option of removing the trial Word
2003, it wasn't listed, so he installed Word 97. This works okay from the
icon but whenever he double-clicks on a Word file already created (by 97) he
gets the Activation Wizard pop-up. His trial period on Word 2003 has expired
(he never used it) and now every time he double-clicks he get this damn
activation wizzard telling him his trial has expired. How do I get rid of it,
it's driving him crazy!

MS Word Errors >> Activation Wizard problem MORE...
I'm trying to sort it for him. I can open Word97 from the desktop logo and
call up docs from 'open', no problem. It's only when I double-click on a doc
file that it tries to open in Word2003. I've tried re-assigning using 'open
with' and file association but Word97 isn't listed and when I browse for it
and associate it, the machine ignores me and reverts to 2003. Is this a
Microsoft ploy to force people to upgrage from perfectly good but old
programs?

MS Word Errors >> Activation Wizard problem I don't think that will help, Terry, if he has two versions installed.
Although it might if he uses the full path to the correct copy of
winword.exe or creates a desktop shortcut as described at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm. Interestingly, there
are numerous KB articles on how to activate and convert the trial version,
none on how to remove it. I am surprised that there is not an uninstall
feature available; if it is listed in Add/Remove Programs, it should be
listed as Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003.
